Why FSSC?

Since 2009, we have been growing toward our current position of the leading global certification Scheme owner. Our vision is to contribute to a better world through our ISO Management System-aligned certification schemes for the consumer goods industry and its related supply chain.

We have over forty professionals working globally on the continuous improvement and innovation of the GFSI-recognized food safety management system FSSC 22000 and our new social management system FSSC 24000.

Foundation FSSC has regional representatives in North America, South America, India, Japan, Türkiye, and the Middle East and a liaison in China. We support your organization with our schemes, from implementation to accreditation, auditing, and beyond. FSSC schemes cover the whole food supply chain – from farm to fork. Why choose FSSC 22000?

  • Non-profit

    The significance of being a non-profit organization with global stakeholders is our identity as one of the most cost-effective, GFSI-recognized food safety certification solutions available to the consumer goods industry.

  • Assurance Structure

    Benchmarking ensures an independent body examines not only the technical content of a scheme but the program management, oversight, and delivery. The FSSC 22000 scheme has been benchmarked and accepted by the Global Food Safety Initiative, and the Dutch and French governments. In 2021, FSSC 22000 also gained approval by the International Accreditation Forum. We are currently striving towards SSCI benchmarked for our FSSC 24000 scheme.

  • Giving-back Strategy

    Actively supporting capacity building activities through funding and in-kind contributions to contribute to the development of strong food safety systems and thus to reduce the socio-economic impact of food borne diseases in low- and middle-income countries.

  • Risk Management

    Based on International Organization for Standardization (ISO) management system standards, the Scheme also facilitates integrated implementation and auditing with other ISO management standards, making FSSC a unique and internationally recognized scheme.

  • Development program

    To support small and medium-sized organizations in the supply of safe food, we offer the FSSC Development Program. The program is a two-level approach aligned with CODEX HACCP and a path to FSSC 22000 certification.

    The main aim of the FSSC Development Program is to help food organizations increase their market access and evolve their food safety management system through a step-by-step approach of continuous performance improvement.

  • Contributing to SDGs

    Delivering impact also means contributing to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). For this purpose, Foundation FSSC joined the UN Global Compact in 2021.
    Due to their relation to food safety, the following SDGs are of particular interest to the Foundation:

    SDG 1: No poverty and SDG 2: Zero Hunger – food security and the end of poverty cannot be achieved without safer food. More is needed to strengthen capacities through the food system safety management of food business operators everywhere.
    SDG 12: Food waste and management of chemicals – there is at times a challenge to maintain food safety whilst reducing food waste. Food safety must also be maintained while keeping control of the contaminants that come from plastic recycling.
    SDG 6: Good water and sanitation – how can we maintain food safety while increasing water re-use.

  • Support for our Partners

    Achieving impact means working closely with our partners, meeting our stakeholders’ expectations, and taking external drivers into account. This serves as motivation for continuous improvement of the Scheme and a dedicated support system. MyFSSC is our database created to assist partners with speed and accuracy across any scheme related topic.
