FSSC 22000 FSMA Addendum
Early gap analyses of FSSC 22000 against FSMA suggested that the FSSC 22000 Scheme requirements are largely comparable to those of the Preventive Controls for Human Food rules. A subsequent in-depth analysis identified minor differences and the absence of specific legislative details.
FSSC 22000 has published a FSMA Supplement in 2017 to help certified organizations understand the differences between their certified FSMS and the Human Food Rule requirements. The Supplement was developed as a self-assessment tool however the market has increasingly asked for third-party verification of the relevant FSMA requirements.
For this reason, the Foundation has decided to develop a voluntary FSMA Addendum to the FSSC 22000 Scheme that will help users share information required to support their supply chain program and to facilitate foreign and domestic supplier verification. The Addendum identifies the FSMA specific requirements that are not explicitly included in the FSSC 22000 Scheme requirements so that certified organizations can integrate the extra requirements into their Food Safety Management System.
The FSSC 22000 FSMA Addendum is voluntary and can now be downloaded here on the FSSC 22000 website.
